LeadCity Convocation: Olayinka Calls For Review Of Laws Excluding Private Versities From Tetfund

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Abel Olayinka, on Thursday, called for a review of the legislation preventing private universities from benefitting from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

He made this call while delivering the 17th convocation lecture of the Lead City University, Ibadan, titled “Resolving the Trilemma of Access, Affordability and Quality in the Nigerian University System: A Role for the Entrepreneur,” held at the institution in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Olayinka noted that although private universities were not established by the government, they are public entities that serve the public good.

Olayinka, who is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, University of Ibadan, said private sector operators in the education sector in the country should be encouraged to complement government efforts at providing quality education for its citizens.
