Members of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria [NMCN] has called for a quick attention from the federal government, to come to their aid over some issues as regards the verification fees which have gone up from seventy three thousand naira to three hundred thousand naira , as well as six months delay in the approval of registered nurses in the country among others.

While speaking during a radio programme in Ibadan the Oyo state capital , one of the representatives of the association , Stephen Morgan , described the development as one that is uncalled for , saying that the situation is far more different from the way its been done outside the country.

”Verification in UK takes three to four weeks, verification in Philipine is done immediately you enter, Verification in Kenya takes two weeks , in Texas it is fifteen days, for India it is two days and while that of Saudi Arabia is in two weeks and the council of nursing in Nigeria said they will conduct ours in nothing less than six months”.

With these current development where the prices of goods and services have gone very high as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy, the economic situation, has also affected many professions and businesses as some organisations have been forced to shut down.

He however revealed that, if there is a contribution to the healthcare system by the federal government, which is directly proportionate to life expectancy, there would be a great increase of the gross domestic product of the country to eight percent.

Morgan further said that the government of the day needs to provide basic facilities, which would hasten their work and as well reward them with a reasonable amount of money that would help to sustain them and their families.

It would be recalled that earlier on Monday, nurses in Lagos state staged a peaceful protest, calling on the government to solve their problems in order to enjoy their work.
